At 25 years of age, people often feel invincible – even without being the top badminton player in their country. Petr Koukal has been just that for the fourth year running, he is also successful internationally and is climbing toward world's top 30 players.
He is getting ready to become the first Czech badminton player to qualify for two Summer Olympics – Beijing 2008 and London 2012. The qualification process takes one year and starts in April 2011. Six months before that, Petr is diagnosed with cancer. He has to be operated immediately, after having saved his sperm. His carcinogenic testicle is removed.
The first interview for a film nobody planned takes place a week later. Petr starts his chemotherapy and the top Malaysian coach coming for a month-long intensive training program trains young badminton players instead. Petr is faced with an opponent he doesn't know any tactics against. Petr Koukal's Dream journey records a year in the life of a young man capable of setting a goal and following it despite being alone. In April 2012, the Olympic qualification is to be closed and Petr's dream comes true. He will carry the flag for the Czech Olympic team at the opening ceremony.
